ADAM PRIESTLEY - B.Sc, Cert TEFL
Adam has been working in business management for many years and has been involved in the English Language Teaching Industry for the last 10 years. Adam set up Leeds Language College Ltd in 2005 following teaching in fully established Colleges in Portugal and London where he actively learnt about the running of a college and International students' requirements. He has worked with both adult and young learners from a broad range of nationalities and with different learning needs. During his career in the UK and overseas, Adam has worked with international teams of teachers, educational managers and administrative staff. He enjoys reading, music and spending time with his family.
VERONICA OMENI - M.Sc, Advanced Dip.TESOL
VICE PRINCIPAL AND DIRECTOR OF STUDIES
Veronica has been working in the English Language Teaching Industry for over two decades and has gained 17 years' managerial experience working with private, public and commercial institutions as well as universities and language schools. She has worked with both adult and young learners from a broad range of nationalities and with different learning needs. During her career in the UK and overseas, Veronica has worked with and managed international teams of teachers, educational managers and administrative staff. She has designed and cooperated on several successful EU training projects- training teachers, educators and business executives in inter-cultural awareness, curriculum design, methodology, IT and communication skills. She has travelled broadly and enjoys learning about different cultures and studying foreign languages. Veronica is also interested in information technology, the visual arts and literature. She is currently working towards a PhD in Education Technology.
STEPHANIE MCINTOSH - B.A., Cert. TEFL, Cert. ICT
Stephanie has gained experience working in commercial, financial and educational contexts. She has worked on projects delivering social media, on-line and podcasting solutions to schools and organizations and has been responsible for monitoring the on-line safety of young learners. She has worked with young people and dealt with clients and learners from many different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Stephanie has worked on voluntary placements to assist refugees with their communication skills and participated in peace-making and human-rights projects in the Middle-East. Stephanie enjoys reading, hiking and handicrafts. She has studied French and is interested in world literature.
VIVIENNE (WIESLAWA) DAVIDSON
Vivienne is a qualified administrator and has many years’ experience working in the tourism and travel industry. She has travelled broadly and has worked in customer support, hospitality and administrative roles in the UK, Italy and Hawaii. She speaks several languages and enjoys working with international students. She enjoys travelling, skiing and social activities.
ROSER RAFOLS-HILARI - B.A.,
Roser is a qualified administrator, has a qualification in Media and Popular Culture and is also a qualified and experienced catering specialist. She has travelled broadly and has many years’ experience working in the catering and hospitality industries. Roser studied in Leeds but has lived and worked in Spain and the UK. She enjoys cooking, travelling, reading, cinema and walking. She is multilingual and speaks 3 languages.
KRISTINA PETROVA - B.A.,
Kristina is a qualified English Philologist and a qualified Visual and Plastic arts specialist. She has held positions such as an editor, a tutor and a translator. For four years she has been a volunteer in educational institutions and has participated in international youth exchange projects. She speaks several languages and enjoys working with people from different countries. In her spare time she likes traveling, reading and acquiring foreign languages.
CLARE VOKE – M.A., Cert TESOL
Clare has been teaching English as a second/foreign language for over 5 years and has worked both in the UK and China. She has worked with both adult and young learners and also been involved in supporting asylum seekers and refugees, providing them with advice on their rights and opportunities for development and integration. Claire has experience of in-class teaching and also working in the busy admissions department of a major university in the UK, supporting undergraduate and post-gradute students. She has taught all levels and also Business English to VIPs and executive students. Claire is interested in languages and travelling and speaks conversational Chinese.
HELEN WHITEHEAD – B.A., PGCE, Cert TESOL
Helen is a qualified teacher of Modern Foreign Languages. Helen graduated from the University of Wales, Bangor where she studied German and History. She has held roles such as a Special Educational Needs Assistant in a socio-economically deprived school, supported pupils with diverse needs and worked in a primary schools with lower ability pupils. Helen taught English as a foreign language to students in Germany for a number of years, after which she was made an ambassador for the British Council and still has contact with those schools. Her current post allows her to teach multilingual adults English, which she thoroughly enjoys. Helen is a fluent speaker of German.
DEBBIE HOWE – B.A., Cert TEFL
Debra Howe has a BA (hons) in English Studies and a Cambridge CELTA. She prefers to be called Debbie. Debbie has worked in schools and colleges and Leeds Asylum Seekers’ Support Network. She really enjoys teaching English to overseas students, as she can learn so much about their different cultures, first-hand. Debbie lives just outside of Leeds in a place called Lofthouse. She is married to Bob and has a son called Charlie who has just started high school. She also has a bad-tempered cat called Fizz. In her spare time Debbie likes to do Pilates and Yoga at her local gym to keep fit. She also likes reading, watching films and eating out.
ELLIOT SMITH – B.A., Cert TEFL
Elliot comes from East Lancashire, but has been living in Leeds since 2007, having completed a degree in Politics from York University. After two years working as a chef and a further two years travelling across the US and Europe with his band, a career as the next Marco Pierre White or Kaiser Chief’s member was not forthcoming, so he opted for a move into the world of EFL. Since completing a CELTA course, Elliot has taught General English as well as one-to-one classes and English for Professional Work and Business every day at L.L.C. In his spare time Elliot enjoys music, literature, reading and occasionally organising live music events.
KAREN HARPER - B.A., Cert TEFL
Karen is a languages graduate (English and French). She has worked in the education sector (secondary and further education) for the last 15 years. She has a special interest in language and technology, and has worked on many projects creating and developing resources for language learning. Karen has also lived abroad and travelled widely. Her interest in other countries and cultures has taken her across the globe to places as far afield as New Zealand, Sri Lanka and several Caribbean destinations
CATHERINE WILSON– B.A., Cert TEFL
Her name is Catherine, but most people call her Cat. She comes from York and has a BA in French and German from the University of Leeds. Since completing her CELTA in 2010 she taught in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia for two years and spent time volunteering in schools in Uganda and Cambodia. She has also lived in France and Germany as a student and one of her main passions in life is travelling, trying to visit as many countries as possible! She also loves cooking, especially when it involves chocolate!
REJWANA MALIK, M.A. TESOL
Rejwana, also known as Rej, is a native speaker of English and an alumnus of the University of Leeds. She studied at the university’s renowned Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies department and thereafter successfully completed a Masters postgraduate degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Growing up in a multicultural background and with a keen interest in various cultures, Rej has accumulated an extensive theoretical knowledge of L2 pedagogy and issues faced by second language students. Rej has taught students from many countries, has worked abroad and taught both young and adult learners. She has also worked in Primary & Secondary schools in West Yorkshire. She enjoys sports, travelling, Anime and speaks conversational Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Rej is also waiting for the day she can finally get a Siberian husky!
MADALYNNE FRARY, B.A., Cert TEFL.
Madalynne has always had a passion for culture and language, and enjoys spending time overseas learning new languages and meeting new people from around the world. She completed her CELTA qualification in the city of Norwich and has enjoyed working on summer programmes and volunteering projects at the University of York. She has recently returned from spending time in Switzerland, exploring and investigating their multilingual schooling systems. A particular area of interest is multilingualism in education and study. In her spare time Madalynne enjoys travelling with friends and cooking!
Abigail, or Abbi, has a BA from the University of Leeds in Modern Languages – French and Russian. Since completing her TESOL course she has taught English as a foreign language in the Russian Federation, Moldova and Senegal to learners of all ages, and particularly enjoys the opportunity it gives her to learn about other cultures and languages. She loves reading, which is how she started to enjoy language, and loves to travel. She has spent summers travelling in West Africa, across Europe and in South America, and in her spare time likes to play the piano or go for a run.
JAMILA MAMANIAT, B.A., Cert TEFL.
Jamila has a BA Honours in English and Arabic and a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). She spent a year abroad in Egypt where she studied Arabic in the faculty of languages at the University of Cairo. She worked in Human Resources at the BBC Television Centre in London for two years and then worked as an HR Advisor at BBC Birmingham for two years. Following this, she worked as a Project Consultant for the West Yorkshire Police on a BME recruitment drive initiated by the Home Office. She also worked as a Project Consultant for Central Lancashire University on a Drugs Ethnicity Project which was targeted at British minority and ethnic groups in the region. Jamila is a School Governor at a local school, where she is involved in promoting standards of achievement and reviewing School policies . Jamila decided to become an English teacher because she has a real interest in the English Language and enjoys teaching others so that they can achieve their goals and aspirations. She lives with her husband in a small town outside of Leeds and has got two boys aged 7 and 9. She enjoys reading and travelling and loves to experience different cultures and traditions.
